Fingal Physio - Sinead de Freitas

Hi – I’m Sinéad. I qualified as a Physiotherapist from Trinity College Dublin in 2000 and began my career in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin. This was followed by a year travelling, where I had the opportunity to work as a Physiotherapist in Christchurch, New Zealand.

On my return to Ireland, I specialised in Paediatrics and worked at the Central Remedial Clinic(CRC), Dublin. I received excellent training and support during my years there and gained experience in all aspects of child development and treatment.

I managed children with all of the major conditions resulting in physical disability such as Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Brachial Plexus Injuries, Spina Bifida and Arthrogryposis.

In addition, I also treated babies with developmental delay and other more unusual syndromes with associated primary physical disability.

Family commitments then took me to Manchester, England. I worked initially in “The School for the Deaf”, a school for children with hearing impairment, who also had a physical and/or intellectual disability. Many of the children were on the Autistic Spectrum. Treatments were both land and water (hydrotherapy) based.

I then worked for Manchester Primary Care Trust, a community based service, treating children at home and in schools and nurseries across Manchester. The city-wide service provides physiotherapy assessment and treatment to children from birth to 18 with neurological, developmental and musculoskeletal conditions, similar to those treated at the CRC. I spent 8 very happy years working with this excellent team of specialist paediatric therapists. Regular training and support gave me invaluable experience assessing and treating a wide range of conditions.

Finally I came home again to Ireland, where we settled with our 2 young children in Skerries, Co. Dublin. It was then that I made the decision to retrain in the area of pelvic health. I was meeting lots of Mum’s through my paediatric work and realised there was a need in the area. While working in Skerries Physiotherapy Clinic I gained huge experience through a wide range of pelvic health patients. I made contacts with a number of Consultants in the area of Urology, Gynaecology and Colorectal care and quickly built a large caseload of patients.

I continued to work for 10 years in Skerries, treating both my Paediatric and Pelvic Health patients. In 2024 the clinic I was based in closed and I moved to Lusk, based out of Fingal Physiotherapy Clinic.
